Masters odds: Can Tiger add another notch to his belt?
The Masters gets underway next weekend and, without a doubt, the story will be Tiger Woods. Can he earn his fifth green jacket despite not playing competitive golf for over four months? And if he can’t win, who can? Here’s a brief look at the leaders on Bodog and Bet365.com.
Tiger Woods
Bodog: 4/1
Bet365: +400
It’s no surprise to see Tiger at the top of this list, but can he really pull it off after such a long hiatus? No, it won’t be the media circus some expected—Augusta will be tightly controlled and ensure Woods is left well alone—but most of his competitors have already played a half dozen tournaments this season. If Tiger can pull it off, it’ll certainly be one of the greatest accomplishments on his already outstanding resume.
Phil Mickelson
Bodog: 9/1
Bet365: +800
Lefty has played six tournaments this year but has yet to find his perfect form. Most recently he finished 30th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Mickelson has just one Top-10 this season, an 8th place finish at Pebble Beach.
Ernie Els
Bodog: 10/1
Bet365: +1000
Els is playing excellent right now. He’s joined seven tournaments this year and has a very impressive four Top-10s to his name, including three Top-5s. Better yet, Els is coming off back-to-back victories—he won the World Golf Championships at Doral and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. If you like picking the “hot” golfer leading into a major, you’ve found your guy.
Steve Stricker
Bodog: 14/1
Bet365: +1800
Stricker has owns four Top-10 finishes in his seven outings this year, but he’s cooled slightly since a great start. Stricker opened his year with three consecutive Top-10s—including a win at the Northern Trust Open—but he’s done so just once in his last four tournaments. He didn’t have his “A-game” last weekend when he finished 52nd at the Arnold Palmer.
Padraig Harrington
Bodog: 16/1
Bet365: +1600
Harrington has entered six tournaments this year. He’s finished in the Top-10 twice, peaking with a third-place finish a few weeks ago at the World Golf Championship. He’s finished eighth (Transitions Championship) and 13th (Arnold Palmer) since then.
Ratief Goosen
Bodog: 20/1
Bet365: +2500
Goosen has enjoyed a very, very solid run so far this season. While he hasn’t earned a victory, he’s managed five Top-10 finishes in seven outings this year. Four of those finishes came in the Top-5, and Goosen is coming off a fourth-place at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He’s humming along right now.
