Sportsbooks Adjust Super Bowl 46 Betting Odds
Every NFL early season has its darlings, and this year those darlings are the long-suffering Detroit Lions. After more than a decade without a playoff appearance, the Lions look like they might finally have the personnel in place to end that drought. And they're off to a 4-0 start, thanks to a couple of big come-from-behind victories.
And accordingly, sportsbooks have adjusted their futures odds on the Lions. With the first quarter of this season in the books, Detroit is one of the teams that has seen the largest adjustment. The Lions started this season getting around 40/1 to win their first Super Bowl. But as of Wednesday Bodog.eu is now listing Detroit at 12/1 on its Super Bowl 46 betting board.
The Houston Texans, who have never made the playoffs, went off this season getting upwards of 30/1 to win their first Super Bowl. Now, after winning three of their first four games and beating the defending AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers, Bodog is listing Houston at 11/1 on its Super Bowl board.
The Buffalo Bills, also in a decade-plus playoff drought, started off as among the longest shots on most Super Bowl boards, getting upwards of 150/1. But now, after their 3-1 start, Bodog has bumped the cardiac Bills down to 40/1.
And the Washington Redskins, who haven't made the playoffs since 2007, went off as a 70/1 Super Bowl choice. But after three wins in their first four games the Redskins are now getting 40/1 on Bodog's Super Bowl board.
While some teams have seen their Super Bowl odds go down, others have had their prices go up. For instance the New York Jets started off this season getting around 12/1 to win the Super Bowl. But after their 2-2 start, which includes bad losses at Oakland and Baltimore, the Jets are now listed at 20/1 to win the Super Bowl at Bodog.
Likewise, the Philadelphia Eagles, after their 1-3 start, have seen their Super Bowl odds double, from 10/1 to 20/1.
The Pittsburgh Steelers may be suffering a bit from the Super Bowl losers hangover. They're off to a 2-2 start, and they're dealing with several key injuries, the most serious of which is LB James Harrison's broken orbital bone that will keep him out for the next several weeks. Pittsburgh went off this season getting about 12/1 to win the Super Bowl, but is now listed at Bodog at 20/1.
The Atlanta Falcons were the top seed in the NFC playoffs last year, and they started off this season getting 15/1 to win the Super Bowl. Now, after a 2-2 start, they're getting 30/1 on Bodog's Super Bowl board.
Of course, the team that's seen the biggest jump in its Super Bowl odds is the Indianapolis Colts. Shortly before this season started, before news of Peyton Manning's injury situation was fully realized, Indianapolis was a 15/1 choice. But without Manning and with an 0-4 start the Colts are now listed at 300/1.
